The Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS is a methodically orientated Fraunhofer institute specialising in material science and material engineering disciplines. It is a contact for industry and public clients for all questions concerning the microstructure of materials and systems with the objective of increasing material efficiency and profitability and a careful use of resources.
The work of the Fraunhofer IMWS aims to identify defects and weak points in materials, components and systems on the micro and nanoscale, to clarify their cause and offer clients solutions based on this.
The Fraunhofer CEM Halle has been established as a work group of the IMWS in Halle to evaluate material chains from an economic, ecological and social viewpoint. The Fraunhofer Centre for the Economics of Materials is managed as a group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS.
